About The Artist

Hey ya’ll, Rachel here. Originally from PHilly, I am currently an artist-in-residence at Cub Creek Foundation. I draw inspiration from natural occurrences such as erosion, leaf veins, mountain ranges, tree bark, and aerial views of the Earth to make my work.  Excited about the idea of recycling and reusing, I appreciate and include the process of reclaiming in my work. Since I moved to Virginia I have incorporated the use of native clays into my work quite a bit as well. I have achieved several textures in my recent pieces, that are both wheel thrown and hand built, and primarily functional.  The addition of aggregates and found materials from my travels increase the texture. Being interested in time, layers, weathering and the like, a lot of my work also includes manipulations or carvings.  Currently, I am working on broadening my practice and producing different kinds of textured mountains with an array of clay bodies.
